Former Alligator, Alex Santiago Receives MAC Most Outstanding Swimmer

Former Alligator and Buffalo Grove High School Varsity Swimmer, Alex Santiago once again set the MAC (Mid-American Conference), program and pool record with a first place finish at 42.42 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle. "Alex Santiago went from an unrecruited walk-on to a likely NCAA qualifier and MAC Most Outstanding Swimmer in three years at SIU. His commitment to the sport and the team is something very special" said Hanson, Men's Swimming Head Coach at Southern Illinois University. To top off the meet, Santiago also won the Most Outstanding Swimmer from the Mid-American Conference. Santiago currently ranks 8th in the Mid-American Conference, a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I collegiate athletic conference with a membership base in the Great Lakes region that stretches from Western New York to Illinois.
